Vision & Mission

India has a rich, vast, diverse and dynamic intellectual heritage encompassing language, literature, philosophy, aesthetics, polity, various branches of science and other numerous branches of knowledge. In the contemporary academic milieu, there is an increasing need to retrospectively revisit India’s enduring, rich intellectual heritage.

It is with this vision that the proposed e-journal, प्राच्यवीक्षा (Prācyavīkṣā) is conceived as a scholarly platform for exploring, interpreting and disseminating India’s intellectual and cultural traditions, while fostering meaningful deliberation between the wisdom of the past and the intellectual inquiries of the present.

The very name Prācyavīkṣā reflects the journal's intellectual orientation. Prācya signifies the ancient or eastern, while vīkṣā denotes seeing, observing, examining or looking with insight. The journal is guided by the motto ‘अधि वीक्षाम् ऋच्छाम’ (adhivīkṣāmṛcchāma) — “May we move ahead with profound Knowledge.” The journal particularly encourages research that explores the continuing relevance of Indian knowledge traditions and creates dialogue between classical sources and contemporary disciplines. In this sense, its motto serves not merely as a guiding phrase but as an epistemic principle underlying the journal's academic vision: to see deeply, inquire critically and move forward with insight.

The principal focus of the journal is Indology, encompassing the diverse intellectual, cultural, linguistic, literary, philosophical, historical and scientific traditions of India. This biannual, peer-reviewed e-journal welcomes original, scholarly and relevant research articles in English twice a year (1st September-31st December & 1st April- 30th June).
